There are times when our evangelistic efforts are going to put us in contact with people who are different from us. There are times when we will be called to reach out to those who look different, act different, and maybe even smell different. Yet, this should not come as a surprise to us if we are at all familiar with the life and teaching of Jesus. In the parable of the great supper, He makes it abundantly clear that He wants us to go to the poor, crippled, blind, and lame of the world. He also makes it clear that this is not a call we should put off; we should answer it now.

Warren Wiersbe in his commentary, Be Courageous, writes of this text that “the Christian life is a feast, not a funeral.” Maybe the reason we have had difficulty going to the poor, crippled, blind, and lame of the world is that we have forgotten what we are offering them. We, as humble servants, are offering them an opportunity to dine with us at the Master’s table. This is an honor that none of us deserved, so why would we withhold it from anyone else? It’s time to “go…”
