Divide and Conquer

No study of Satan’s tactics would be complete without studying his use of division. In keeping with the concept of spiritual warfare, a military strategist knows the maxim, “divide and conquer.” If a commander can cause the opponent to break ranks, turn on each other, and fight each other, then he quickly wins. No army can stand against the enemy if it is divided, especially if it is divided in purpose, strategy, and tactic. When we fight one another, we are doing Satan’s work for him.

When we are working together, focusing on serving God and each other, we will be less likely to be susceptible to the cancer of division. We all have idiosyncrasies and might even cause some minor offenses, yet we focus on God and look for opportunities to love and forgive one another. Every military organization knows that they must work together with others of the organization if they are to succeed. This is no less true in the Body of Christ. We must stand and work united. This was important to our Lord, and it must be important to us. If Satan can get us to turn on one another, not work together, even to undermine each other, then his work is done.
