The Power Of Hope

Hope is one of the cornerstones of our faith. We have to get it correctly placed in the building and supporting of our spiritual growth. Without it our spiritual growth is weakened. Paul lists hope in 1 Corinthians 13 as part of the triad of Christian values: “But now abide faith, hope, love, these three…,” (1 Corinthians 13:13, NASB). He also emphasizes the importance of hope in 1 Corinthians 15:19: “If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied,” (NASB). Paul is just restating that without eternal hope through Christ’s resurrection, we are to be most pitied. This is because we would believe in something that isn’t true. Sadly, many in the world cling to false hope. The hope we have in God isn’t some vague feeling or wishing for something to happen. Instead, hope is a confident assurance that something is alive and real in our lives.

The hope we find in Jesus, promised by God, is foundational to our spiritual growth. Hope is described as one of the most powerful elements in our lives. It is also among our greatest gifts from God. Without it there is no purpose and no willingness for life. With it there is every reason to live the life God asks us to live and to draw closer to Him through His Son, Jesus.
