Surrender
Embedded in our cultural consciousness is an abhorrence of surrender. President John F. Kennedy once said, “The cost of freedom is always high, but Americans have always paid it. And one path we shall never choose, and that is the path of surrender, or submission.” Although military supremacy demands an attitude in which surrender is never an option, Christianity calls us to a different frame of mind. Jesus calls His church to shine with the living power of standing in a victory claimed only through surrender.
Waving the white flag of surrender is essential to being a church that shines. Our surrender points men to Him with every action and word. His presence is evident in our lives and visible to those with whom we come in contact. The opinions of this world no longer are the standard by which we measure our lives. We submit our lives to the Truth revealed in the person of Jesus. Our hearts rejoice in the sacrifice that bought our redemption as we seek to allow God to shape surrendered hearts within us because they are a reflection of Jesus.
