Resisting Satan
Many people today no longer take Satan seriously. Maybe it’s the image that some people have of the red tights and pitchfork. For whatever the reason, many see Satan more as a comic character than a formidable enemy. Surveys show that even among those that profess to be Christians, many no longer believe that Satan is an actual being. The Bible, however, teaches that Satan is real and that he is a powerful influence for evil in the world. A quick look around will show us that there is much evil in our world, and Satan is behind all of it.
As long as we try to live like Jesus, we will be in a spiritual battle. The good news is, however, that Jesus has already met the enemy and has won. And because of Jesus’ victory, it is no longer necessary for Christians to be under the power of Satan for God has “…delivered us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son,” (NASB, Colossians 1:13). Satan is still going to be there, still trying to lead us away from God. If we are living for God, however, He will be with us and help us resist Satan and his evil forces.
