Peace

In Luke 7, Jesus encounters a sinful woman who is desperate for forgiveness. She wanted the presence of God as desperately as the deer pants for water. This is not the only time someone showed a desperate desire to experience Jesus. On more than one occasion people simply wanted to touch the hem of His garment. Mark recounts the story of a paralytic that was so desperate that his friends cut a hole in a neighbor’s roof and lowered him down to Jesus because the door was blocked from the crowd. Jesus referred to their desperation as “faith.”

After commenting on the woman’s saving faith in Luke 7:50, Jesus gave the instruction: “‘Go in peace,’” (NASB, Luke 7:50). What exactly was He calling her to do? How can going in peace bless our evangelistic efforts?

“‘Go in peace,’” (NASB, Luke 7:50). These same words ring true for all who come to Jesus. This text comes with a great promise of peace to all those who have come to God by faith in Jesus Christ. It calls us to ask two questions which each of us must answer: Have I trusted Christ by faith? Does my life show my love for what Jesus has done for me?
