Living Like Jesus : Valuing the Kingdom
There is some truth in the old saying, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” The beat-up piece of furniture that you or I think should be in the local thrift store may be a valuable antique to a collector. Even so, what is valuable today may not be so tomorrow. Also, when it comes to value, looks can be deceiving. That Tiffany lamp, Civil War sword, or Chippendale chair may look valuable, but we may discover later that it is an imitation or a fake. In the end it is only those things that are genuine and will last forever that will never lose their value. There is only one thing that can completely meet those criteria: the kingdom of God.
When we live like Jesus, we will value the kingdom above all else and put it first in our lives: “‘But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you,’” (NASB, Matthew 6:33). We will understand that the cost of the kingdom was the life of Jesus and that nothing else in the world is more valuable than God’s kingdom.
