LIVING LIKE JESUS : Obeying God

Jesus frequently taught about obedience. He also lived a life full of obedience and was a model for us in living an obedient life. Jesus’ greatest examples of obedience were the Garden of Gethsemane and the cross. In the garden Jesus prayed, “‘My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will,’” (NASB, Matthew 26:39). He knew what was coming, and like anyone else, Jesus would have avoided that painful death, if possible. Instead, He fully submitted to God’s will; He obeyed God.

The ultimate example of Jesus’ life of submission was the cross. His last words reflect this: “‘Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit,’” (NASB, Luke 23:46). Jesus had obeyed the Father, submitte3d to His will, and even in death, Jesus placed Himself in the Father’s hands.
