LIVING LIKE JESUS: Having Peace

Our world is so busy and noisy that it is hard to find a time and place to be really quiet. Nearly everyone seems to be moving in fast forward. Living lives that are constantly active and filled with worry and stress seems to be the norm rather than the exception. Our world is also filled with strife and conflict among individuals, groups, and nations. Sadly, history is more often marked by wars than by times of peace. Peace is something so elusive, but we all long for it. That is why Jesus’ promise of peace was as important to those living in the first century as it is for us today. Is it possible to find peace in a world like ours?

Perfect peace is something that we will not experience in this life. The final verse of the song “Peace, Perfect Peace” expresses this thought well: “It is enough; earth’s struggles soon shall cease, and soon Jesus call us to heaven’s perfect peace.” Following Jesus and His teachings can bring peace to our world, but it is only in heaven in the life to come that we will share “perfect peace” with Jesus.
