GO and Make Disciples
Jesus’ final words included a call to, “‘Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,’” (NASB, Matthew 28:19). As we look at this final “Go” statement of Jesus, we must understand that we can never make disciples until we truly become disciples.
We tend to compartmentalize our lives. We have a work compartment, a family compartment, a recreation compartment, a church compartment, and a very small evangelism compartment. To “Go make disciples,” we cannot make it a separate compartment of our lives. Evangelism is not a small compartment of our lives; rather it is our life. It is why we exist. It is the eternal purpose that God has called us, His church, to accomplish. If we are ever going to accomplish this purpose, we must make the decision to deny ourselves, take up our cross, and GO!
