Applying The Word Of God
It has been said many times that Christians are not as knowledgeable about God’s Word or don’t have the desire to study God’s Word as they once did. Through God’s Word we learn to have faith: “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ,” (Romans 10:17, NASB). But it is not just knowing about it; it is actually knowing it. By actually knowing it, we internalize it and make it a part of who we are so that it transforms us. We should be transformed to the point that when others see us, they should see Jesus. Many know about Scripture and can actually quote much of it but don’t know it to the point that they allow it to change who they are and how we are to reflect our Lord.
It does us no good, and in fact does us great harm not to know God’s Word and demonstrate that knowledge by putting it into action. Jesus referred to this type of individual as a foolish man: “‘Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell – and great was its fall,’” (Matthew 7:26-27, NASB). By putting it into action, we allow God’s Word to transform us from our sinful nature into the pure nature of Jesus. This transformation is a lifelong journey, bringing us to Christlikeness.
